Our Story

Hi there!

My name is Chelsea Coffey, and I couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to Mia’s Closet. I thank God everyday for blessing me with a very big vision. In May 2011, I began actively pursuing the concept of a nonprofit that would provide underprivileged girls with free  clothing. Originally the plan was to create a charity after I finished my career; however, a series of stories highlighting children lacking the most basic of essentials prompted me and co-worker, Patricia Molina, to found Mia’s Closet. Mia’s Closet is forever grateful for Patti’s role in the development of Mia’s Closet, and we have her to thank for tapping into her Spanish background and suggesting the name Mia which means mine in Spanish!

What started out as a a very small project, has blossomed into our 501(c)3 -tax exempt- nonprofit. We have been amazed by God’s goodness and favor every step of the way. My wonderful parents have supported this dream by allowing our home to be a storage facility and our incredible team of volunteers dedicates countless hours of their time to our mission of building confidence and self-worth in kids k-12. Each participant shops with a personal stylist who offers them a platform to express themselves in a positive way. Our children are in dire need of clothing, emotional support, and constructive planning for the future. It is our goal to provide assistance in these areas at least four times a year via our events.

Two events in and we knew we had to take care of the brothers of our Mia’s Closet girls, hence expanding our reach to boys k-12 by creating our subsidiary, Niko’s Locker (Niko’s Locker Store and sports games). We also have a permanent boutique location at Parks Youth Ranch for Homeless Teens, and second permanent location, Las Americas Newcomer School, a school for refugees and nonnative speakers.

This is just the beginning for Mia’s Closet and we are looking forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead! Feel free to contact us for opportunities to donate clothing, volunteer, or sponsor an event. Mia’s Closet is a community, and we welcome you to join us!
